I have always contemplated what it would be like to go back in time and change events of the past to see what might have been instead of what was. Take a few recent controversial revelations from our political past for example.

That statement is usually uttered as a threat. Or, at the very least, as a warning: Be careful because we are not just listening, we will judge you. Proceed with caution is the underlying message.

There's something about having old friends come to stay that makes you look at your own house differently. You suddenly notice things. Like the fact that the guest room has slowly become a storage facility for mismatched lamps and horse show ribbons. Or, that the “good towels” you promised you would keep for company are now threadbare survivors of the last bathroom renovation.
